Secrets of the Yogis of Tibet – Mind Science

This is an excellent documentary on Tibetan Buddhism, focussing on the esoteric practices of the Yogis of Tibet. For many generations this type of information was kept secret to maintain the purity of its practices. However, Tibetans today fear that their tradition of meditation and other well guarded practices surrounding their most accomplished yogis may be dying out. In an attempt to save this knowledge, they are permitting the filming and documenting of these materials for the first time. (78 min)

I am so glad I watched this, David. It not only brought back memories of the beauty and peace I saw/felt in Tibet (which of all the countries I have visited, remains one I hold closest to my heart) but opened my eyes to some of these ancient practices and inspired me to try harder in my own Yoga practice. Not that I will get anywhere near what these masters have attained, but one day I hope to be able to control my ‘monkey’ mind through meditation at least. Anyway the last segment poses some very interesting questions. Only time will tell, I guess…

I know… this is my favorite post in the last few months. I know our minds are not as trained as we would like but I believe the time you spend on your creative work is a form of mediation – the best kind because you love what you do.

While the subject of Tibetans possibly losing their culture and the hundreds of years of exploration of the mind, the film does close with hope and optimism that new roots may arise in the West. Let’s hope so!…
